As a Dubai personal training company, we are asked many questions regarding the progress of our clients. Every Dubai personal trainer has their own way of monitoring their PT clients however, general method is stated below.
What methods of progress monitoring are used and why is it important to keep track of how the clients are doing in relation to their goals?
A male or female personal trainer in Dubai helps people achieve their health and fitness goals specifically. The methods used for monitoring progress is important to keep track. Using the right technology and ways to monitor progress is vital and can save a lot of time by recording your data.
Most of the clients’ in Dubai focus mainly on weight loss, body toning, strength and maintaining a healthy lifestyle in general.
The main progress tools that I use are tape measurements and weight scale. As some people will come with expectations of losing weight, and I always explain that weight might remain the same, however, if your measurements are going down – we are moving in the right direction. As muscles gained can increase the weight, but the body composition will get better. The size of a 1 kg fat is larger than compared to a 1 kg muscle.
When monitoring a client, if we are not observing the results we want, what do we do as Dubai personal trainers?
We always start with training clients and let them adapt to training first for week or two, as most of them will come as beginners, or after some time without training. If there is no difference in measurements or weight, the next step will be – check the nutrition and give it more focus.
When the client keeps track of the food, trains consistently, and still doesn’t observe results after one or two months, there is a need for a check-up with the doctor and perform some hormonal tests or blood test.
However, this is very rare but possible. If the client stays consistent – small changes will start to appear.
Currently our Dubai personal trainer has one client in such situation. She was under medications, has a lot of bloating issues, and it will take her another 5 months for medication to go and fat loss to kick in. Despite this, training 3 times a week, and doing 3 times low intensity cardio, eating with focus – she has already dropped 1 size. She has been consistent for just two months and that`s when I really think consistency beats the reality. Our PT in Dubai always reminds her that she gets fitter and stronger, and her mind and mood is much better.
If clients don`t see the results, most often the reason is either lack of consistency, or excess of calories consumed. Therefore, the training plan isn’t altered too often, as even the most perfect plan which is not performed will be worse than simple plan done consistently well.
There are always ways to notice the progress and even if it`s not the obvious ones i.e. weight, measurement, feeling better every day, having more energy, not getting tired too fast and moving in the right direction is a massive progress.
And this is the coach’s job to remind the client.
For the clients who want weight loss as their ultimate goal, we usually check weight, measurements and their nutrition every week, as we have noticed these clients go too frequently off course and need more accountability and reminders.
For the clients who are more focused on overall health improvement, check-ins aren’t necessary every week as they just make them more stressed and are only needed if they want to get back on track after vacation or after some time of no training.
